About James
James Flynn is a native of Ireland. After completing an English degree at University College Cork, he moved to France and fell in love with French cinema.
The spirit of adventure led to life in a few more European countries before setting up a theatre company, Practicum Theatre, with two fellow writers. The aim was to produce the work of emerging writers and directors.
Three very productive years and a few festivals later, he left the company on a high note, producing the UK premiere of the American play, The Viewing Room, in London’s renowned West End
Film & TV Roles
James is a Film and TV actor. The Czech film, Masaryk (A Prominent Patient)(2016), in which he plays Sir Henry, the English aide to the foreign secretary at the outbreak of World War II, took 12 Czech Lion Awards at the Lion Film Awards in Prague.James appeared in Series 3 of the Canal Plus-acclaimed period drama, Versailles (2015), playing the role of Cavanel, and in the BBC’s five-hour drama, The Woman in White (2018), directed by Carl Tibbetts for Origin Pictures, playing opposite Charles Dance.
In France, he appeared in Luc Besson’s science fiction adventure, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017), and in Amazon’s TV series, Casanova (2015), which was directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet and shot in Versailles.James continues to play an array of diverse character parts. Indeed, sometimes he has had the honour of having a part written for him, such as the role of Ralph Morice in the TV series, The Tudors.
Stage and Writing
On the stage, he received four-star reviews at the Edinburgh festival in 2007, for the show Lie Detector, a play written especially for him. In France, he has played in Ionesco’s La Cantatrice Chauve. He has also worked on some of Shakespeare’s classics in London and Dublin.
James was invited to the prestigious National Theatre Rehearsal Studio in London and the Royal Court’s Writers Programme on the strength of his playwriting. He has also been commissioned to write screenplays, notably by the French producer, Pascal Judelewicz, about the life of Olympic gold medallist Pierre Durand and by Ben Stassen, the Belgian producer of nWave Productions. The result was The House of Magic, a children’s feature.
James also collaborated with abstract painter , Antonio de Campos on the original screenplay for Lost Amazon, a project taken up by Germanys’ animation house, Fiftyeight brothers.
Transformation & Creative Change
Although James Flynn has a diverse acting and writing career and prides himself on the versatile roles he plays, he is also a voice coach, for actors whose first language is not English, being proficient in French, German, Italian and Spanish.
Recently he set up ‘Transformation man’ a venture to help people transform their lives through creativity and some life wisdom.
